KFSHRC offered nearly 300,000 virtual consultations in 2024

The King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre (KFSHRC) in Riyadh has already conducted 293,381 virtual consultations in 2024, representing a 58.2% increase over 2023

[datensicherheit.de, 08|21|2025] The King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre (KFSHRC) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, reports it has already conducted 293,381 virtual consultations in 2024, representing an increase of 58.2 per cent over the previous year. This increase shows that telemedicine has become a central component of this hospital’s care model. It helps to relieve the burden on outpatient facilities and provides patients throughout the kingdom with faster and more convenient access to specialised care.

Telemedicine as a central component of the KFSHRC care model

KFSHRC offers more than 800 virtual consultations per day

The virtual consultation service, introduced in 2021, is designed to save patients in remote areas the trouble of travelling to the hospital. For many, especially older people and patients with chronic conditions, this has eliminated the need for repeated hospital visits.

  • Their quality of life has improved and financial and logistical barriers have been removed, ‘as those affected can contact specialists directly from home’.

With an average of more than 800 virtual consultations per day, this service relieves the burden on outpatient facilities, increases operational efficiency and enables the KFSHRC to optimise resources while maintaining the highest standards of care for patients on site and remotely.

KFSHRC aims to make healthcare more accessible and efficient

Building on this development, KFSHRC expanded its digital health portfolio in 2024 with the introduction of a virtual pharmacy consultation service via its mobile application.

  • Patients can now book appointments through the ‘Virtual Care’ option to consult with pharmacists about medication alternatives, dosage adjustments and treatment management – without having to visit the hospital.

These offerings demonstrate how the KFSHRC is making healthcare more accessible and efficient while putting patients at the centre of care. ‘By combining digital solutions with clinical expertise, the hospital is reducing unnecessary travel, shortening waiting times and ensuring that patients have timely access to specialists, no matter where they live.’

KFSHRC named best academic medical centre in the Middle East and Africa for the second time in a row

These initiatives also support Saudi Arabia’s broader goals of transforming healthcare as part of its ‘Vision 2030’. This will ensure that more people receive high-quality care and that resources are used more efficiently throughout the healthcare system.

  • The KFSHRC has been ranked the best academic medical centre for the Middle East and Africa for the second time in a row and 15th among the 250 best academic medical centres worldwide.

In addition, it was recognised as the most valuable healthcare brand in the Kingdom and the Middle East in the 2024 ‘Brand Finance’ ranking. ‘It was listed as one of the 250 best hospitals in the world in the same year and included in ‘Newsweek’ magazine’s list of the ‘World’s Best Smart Hospitals for 2025’.’
